Q: How long will it take to do my floors?

A: For refinishing, the average floor takes approximately 3 days—the first day to sand and put the first coat of polyurethane, the second day the second coat, and the third day the final coat. If you desire stain, add an extra day.

For a new floor being installed, the average installation takes 1–2 days longer. Usually we can install new flooring, have it completely sanded and finished in 4–5 days.

Q: I’ve had work done in my home in the past and have rearranged my schedule around the work being done, just to have the company not show up when they said they would or finish in the time given. will this happen?

A: We know how important it is to keep a scheduled commitment with our customers. When we schedule a job, we keep that commitment and show up on the day and time we say we will and have a 99.9% track record of finishing the job when we say we will. We know there’s nothing more inconvenient to a home owner when companies do not keep their promises. At Quality Floor Finishers we do.

Q: Does your company carry insurance?

A: Quality Floor Finishers carries $1,000,000 in liability insurance. We also carry workers’ compensation on our employees which is required by law. Any home owner or contractor that hires any company to do work for them should make sure the company carries all insurances required by law. Most home owners do not know when they hire a company that does not carry insurance or have insurance on their employees, if any liability arises or a person they hire gets hurt on their premises, it now becomes the responsibility of the home owner. This can result in all kinds of problems and legalities for the home owner and/or contractor and become a total nightmare. We can provide insurance certificates from our insurance company in the home owner’s or contractor’s name, giving you the comfort that you, your home and us are covered by insurance. We can also provide a certificate of worker’s compensation on our employees, which is state law for all employees.

Q: Does quality floor finishers use subcontractors?

A: Yes, we do have subcontractors we use at times. These subcontractors do work under the standards and guidelines that Quality Floor Finishers puts forth. We only use reliable people that know what they are doing. They are courteous as well as knowledgable in flooring. Any subcontractor used by Quality Floor Finishers has had a long standing relationship and has a solid background. Our subcontractors have been certified by the workers’ compensation board to be legitimate independent subcontractors and follow the rules of the state of Maine to be self-employed. Any subcontractor we use is fully insured, which protects you, the home owner, in the same way as answered in the previous Q&A.
